Burnet High School senior volleyball player Addie Grace Hernandez recently signed her National Letter of Intent to play for Western Texas College.
The Lady Dawg was recruited as a libero/defensive specialist.
“They wanted a hard-working back row player with a consistent serve,” Burnet head coach Crystal Shipley said. “That’s AG 100 percent.”
Hernandez has been part of the Burnet program throughout her four years and has helped the Lady Dawgs record some of their most successful seasons in program history.
In volleyball, she was part of a back-to-back district champion in 2021 and 2022. This season, Hernandez was named District 24-4A’s Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player and academic all-district. In 2021, the Lady Dawgs reached the Class 3A Region III tournament for only the second time in school history.
“She has had to work to get to where she’s gotten,” Shipley said. “She has had to sit the bench when she was younger and work her way to where she is now. She’s not afraid of competing for playing time.”
Hernandez also is the shortstop for the softball team, which just completed its season by reaching the Class 4A Region III semifinals, a first in school history. The Lady Dawgs won the district title this season for the first time in 21 years, a regional quarterfinal championship and an area title for the first time in program history, and a bi-district championship for the first time in eight seasons.
Hernandez was named first team all-district and academic all-district.
“She started out as a four-sport varsity athlete,” Shipley said. “She has narrowed it down this year to volleyball and softball. She’s so athletic and works so hard. She wants to be great and is so coachable.”
The daughter of Jeff and Amy Hernandez is interested in elementary education.
